CELEBRATING OFSTED SUCCESS

imageI am delighted to share with you the final, published, report from our recent OFSTED inspection. Aldworth has been judged as GOOD across every category and our overall rating is also GOOD. This is excellent news for us as a school community and these gradings are in agreement with our own self-evaluation. The inspection itself was undertaken by five experienced inspectors and took place over two full days. In line with the statutory requirements the school was only informed the day before the inspectors arrived.

The process was carried out rigorously and the inspectors visited a large number of lessons, formally observing 32 with many more visited for shorter periods of time. The inspectors met with me, other senior colleagues and a wide spectrum of staff and governors within the school. They also met our students and spoke to as many of our young people as possible.

Although the final report is attached to our website for you to read. Please let us know if you require a hard copy.

Dear Parents / Carers

Welcome to our school website. Our School is a vibrant learning community in which all individuals are encouraged to do their best. This summer our students achieved excellent GCSE grades and we are celebrating the best results in the history of the school; 79% achieving 5+ A*-C grades and 61% of our students gaining 5+ A*-C including English and Mathematics. It was a real pleasure to meet them at our certificate presentation afternoon held on 14th November. Our students have worked hard to achieve these results, made possible by a committed team of staff who provide outstanding support and encouragement. I look forward to working with you over the coming years.

Our Open Evening, held last term, was very well attended with more than 300 families visiting us and touring the School. I had many positive comments from parents about the atmosphere, ethos, welcome and the quality of the displays and information available. Our staff, students and governors worked hard to ensure that all questions were answered!

Our annual Open Morning also proved extremely popular. Families were able to tour the school, with our Year 8 guides, during the normal timetabled day. We have also hosted a number of additional tours for families during the school day. All of the comments we received were very positive and senior staff were available in the library to chat to parents. From the feedback we have received we expect to be over-subscribed, for Year 7 in September 2013, reflecting the confidence the local community have in us as a school.

The first term passed very quickly and there have been many opportunities for our students to become involved in extra-curricular activities. I am starting a regular opportunity for a ‘drop in’ for parents to meet with me and Robert Lock, our Chair of Governors, which will take place each half term. Details of this and all the other activities and notices will appear on our weekly news sheet. The news sheet was launched last term and has proved popular with parents. You should receive it by email each Friday so please let us know if you change email address!

I have had the opportunity to meet many of you at the various events at school last term. This term is just as busy so if we haven’t met yet I look forward to seeing you at school in the near future.
